The original Unity and Reconciliation Day event took place at PACCNY’s launching in 2006. It was a resounding success in bringing together local communities, representing people of African origin, to reflect on the importance of unity. At the time, PACCNY’s mission was to make the event annual, each year focusing on special his/herstorical figures who have contributed to the liberation and upliftment of Africana people over time. The event has since become a core part of PACCNY’s yearly programming.
The celebrative event features cultural and artistic talents among members of the Syracuse Africana community, treating the audience to: poetry, spoken word, music, song; colorful fashion shows and an irresistible Pan-African cuisine. The event fosters an afternoon of reconnecting, having fun and holding communion with each other – all free of charge!
